Vespa, a brand of mopeds and scooters, is produced by the Italian company Piaggio, founded in Genoa in 1884 by Rinaldo Piaggio. Initially focused on luxury sea vessels, Piaggio later expanded to steam-driven saws, rail vehicles (1908), motor boats, and aircraft (1915). In 1946, Piaggio introduced the Vespa scooter, designed by Corradino d'Ascanio, which quickly became popular in post-war Italy. Today, Piaggio is a leading producer of scooters and motorcycles, including brands like Gilera, Derbi, and Aprilia.
